About Diginotes

Diginotes turns a question you are nervous to ask into a link. You write it, you send the link, and the person you sent it to opens an envelope on their phone with their name on it and your words inside. If you asked them something, there are two buttons at the end. One of them runs away.

Why it exists

The question people most want to ask is usually the one they least want to say out loud. Will you be my valentine. Will you go to prom with me. A text feels like too little and asking in person feels like too much. A letter they open on their own, in their own time, sits in between: more effort than a message, less frightening than a face.

It started with valentines. It turned out the same letter works for the whole wedding party: asking your bridesmaids, your maid of honour, your best man, or someone to be a godparent. One link per person, and you see who opened theirs and what they said.

How it is built

A letter can open five ways: a sealed envelope, a written letter, a scratch card, a photo booth that develops your photos one at a time, or a dark page read by lantern light. You can add a note, up to ten photos and a song. After a yes, the person gets a card with their photo, both names, the question and the date, made to be kept and to be posted.

Three findings from psychology shaped the way it works, and they are named on the home page: people underestimate how well a sincere note lands, curiosity needs a specific gap, and an experience is remembered by its peak and its ending. The No button is a joke that runs away a few times, and a real no is always one honest tap away. Nothing is placed between the envelope and the question.

Everything on the recipient’s screen is drawn in the product’s own code, in its own colours and type. There are no generated images and no stock art, so what a card promises is what arrives.

How it stays free

Making a letter is free, and so is everything in it. Advertising pays for the site: it sits on the pages where you write and manage your letters, and sometimes one shows on the way into a letter. Three extras can be unlocked by choosing to watch a short video. The privacy page says exactly what that involves.

What we do not do

Who makes it

Diginotes is an independent project, and the people who make it are the people who answer at hello@diginotes.net. If something is wrong, unclear or missing, tell us. See the contact page for where to write about what.
